MATTRESSES FOR BUNK BEDS

What type of mattress is best for bunk beds?

The best bunk bed mattress or loft bed mattress is a low-profile mattress, ideally 5 to 8 inches thick. A thinner mattress maximizes guardrail safety on the top bunk while keeping headroom comfortable on the bottom bunk.

Memory foam mattresses are a popular mattress for bunk beds since they’re lightweight, supportive, and easy to maneuver up a ladder (no wrestling a bulky mattress through a narrow space). At BBFA, our bunk beds don’t need box springs or bunkie boards, so you can skip that extra hassle (and cost). Thin mattresses, big comfort. Simple.

How thick should a mattress be for a bunk bed?

If you’re looking for the right bunk bed mattress size, thinner is smarter. A low-profile mattress, roughly 5 to 8 inches thick, is perfect for both the top bunk and bottom bunk. Why? It keeps top bunk sleepers safe by effectively using guardrail height while giving your lower-level friends enough room to sit up without any unfortunate head bumps.

Whether you’re looking for a twin mattress for bunk bed or a full-size mattress for
bunk bed, aim for slim without sacrificing comfort. Medium-firm mattresses are pro-level for this sweet spot.
